I have really enjoyed my first semester and I am so excited to see where I will take this topic and what else I will learn along the way. I have already learnt so much, however there are still some aspects that I hope to improve on.

For instance, I really struggle with sketching. This semester I have tried to improve in this skill and I am already feeling a lot more confident. In semester 2, I would really like to learn how to draw figures properly- I have not mastered that yet!! (Please refer to my Sketchbook for sample sketches).

After many attempts this is the one I was happy with. I sketched this shop design out, then using black fine liner I highlighted it. I scanned it on the computer, but really thought it would benefit from some colour.

I tested using coloured pencils and markers, however I couldn't quite get the finish I wanted. I then went on Photoshop and used the brush tool to add some colour to the sketch. This was one of my first times using Photoshop properly, so it was really good practice for me. I am certainly looking forward to using it again.

I was inspired by Abi Read, who has illustrated all of Kate Watson-Smyth's 'Mad About the House Books'. I love how effortless the sketches look, they just feel really authentic.

Here is my attempt using Photoshop to add colour:

For semester 2, I really hope I can continue to improve my sketching and Photoshop skills.

Using my knowledge of colour psychology I have developed a colour scheme which I think would work well for the shop.

As mentioned, the colour green in brands shows trust. I also think this beautiful dark green would show off the antique dark furniture well too- inspired by Drew Pritchard.

The shade 'Huckleberry' works tonally with green.

Pantone's 'Rose Dust' is a gorgeous tone too. I think added a soft pink will make the store look really playful and inviting, rather than looking like an old fashioned antique shop. Many people may feel intimidated if the shop looks too much like an antique shop- as antiques are not for everyone.

As second-hand shopping is something I'm really passionate about, I am so excited to see where this topic will go. I would really like to focus more on the branding side. For instance, I hope to focus on incentives to make the shopping experience very exclusive, making customers feel special and involving them personally in the store.

I also think it is important that the traditional skills and trades are kept. For example, upholstering and French polishing, I really believe this idea would be a great way for school children to learn traditional trades before they die out.
